Breaking Point

Breaking Point - A fantastic follow up to Article 5 by Kristen Simmons. Where in Article 5 we follow the journey of Ember and Chase, and their quest to find safety in a not so free America, in Breaking Point, we continue their journey to freedom…but this time, it’s within the Resistance; the very people who are fighting back against the FBR to make life the way it once was, no matter the price. When we left off in Article 5, Ember and Chase have a semblance of freedom and safety after escaping the prison where they were both pretty much going to be marked COMPLETE. Complete = dead…not very fun. But after a brave act, Ember managed to free both herself and Chase from that death trap, and are welcomed into the arms of the Resistance. It is here that they can now take some sort of step to stick it to the man, and find some sort of solace for those that they have lost.Top on their priority list is getting to Rebecca in Chicago, so that she and Sean can have the life that they’ve dreamed of. But from the ashes comes someone that neither Ember nor Chase would have even imagined that they would have crossed paths with them again. With their luck constantly going from bad to worse, the fingers are being pointed to this individual, and the little safety that they have started to feel, is quickly diminishing.Among the Resistance is an individual that is taking on the militia on their own, picking them off one by one from a distance. A sniper that is making quite the name for themselves. Thoughts are starting to drift towards the possibility that Ember may be this sniper, and Ember isn’t sure if this is a good thing, or quite possibly the very news that could get her very dead.If you love twists and turns, you will be completely treated to a whole lotta that in Breaking Point. Again, we are reunited with the amazing characters found in this series. The super sexy Chase, the loyal and loveable Sean, and the indecisive Ember. I tried to like her more in this book. Honestly, I did! But she remained the same person she was back in book one. I was getting tired of her “I love Chase but stay away from me whilst I make angry faces at you and ignore you but secretly wish you would read my mind and try to figure out what I’m really trying to say attitude”. But there was a point where you can literally see just how much she has had to grow up and mature while fighting for her life and having had to survive.I did feel like there was quite a lot of yearning from afar between Chase and Ember. They continue to explore their feelings but just as quickly put up these walls that I want to knock down! *HULK SMASH* I thought that in times of duress, the feelings that you have hidden would surface rather quickly since…you know…tomorrow you may be dead. But nope. Still with the feeling each other out phase of the relationship. What I really enjoyed was how much more raw emotion we saw. Lots of stuff that’s coming straight from the heart, my friends. There were a couple of instances, in fact, that my eyes did water. It was those touching moments that had me forgiving the little annoying habits that Ember had and opened my eyes to another side of Chase that I absolutely adored. I really enjoyed the fact that the identity of the sniper is left for the readers to keep guessing. There was a lot of toying with my emotions in this book. Lots of feelings of hope and the possibility of jubilation but then have something else all together occur. Although some of the shock factor moments in the book were easy to figure out, it was the little twists within that made them memorable.Author, Kristen Simmons, does a fantabulous job of capturing the reader’s attention with her undeniably addictive writing style, and characters that readers everywhere would follow to the ends of the earth. A solid follow up to this series, Breaking Point will take you on a different journey than the first book. One where rather than trying to figure out who can be trusted amongst the strangers they meet in their journey, they are trying to figure out if there is perhaps someone within the Resistance that is giving away their every move, and bringing Ember and Chase that much closer to death.
