Glimpse

The Glimpse - Claire Merle Imagine living in a world where you’re class is determined by whether or not you have a mental disability. To either live a privileged life as a Pure (not at all affected by the BIG3 – Schizophrenia, Depression, or Anxiety) or to be banished outside of the walls amongst the Crazies. For the better part of her life, Ana has lived her life as a Pure until her curiosity surrounding the death of her mother got the best of her, and brought on the attention of the Board. After further DNA testing, the life that she knows it changes as she is declared a Sleeper, never knowing when and if she will become affected by the BIG3.Slowly, the people around Ana start to disappear…her best friend, Tamsin, disappears, and Jasper, the boy she is to be joined with in order to be allowed to stay within the walls amongst the Pures, has been kidnapped. Slowly, everything and everyone that Ana has always trusted starts to make her doubt where her loyalties should lie…even her father. As Ana goes to seek the truth, and find out what has happened to Jasper, her paths cross a group of Activists who are on the path to obtaining the truth about the DNA tests. Among this group is a boy named, Cole. Could both their lives be intertwined due to forces unknown? The Glimpse by Claire Merle is an eye opener. The world that she has depicted is one of fear and loss, with very little hope. We follow the path of Ariana Barber, daughter of highly acclaimed geneticist Ashby Barber, who is the plays a huge role in the DNA tests that are performed by the Board who basically determine whether or not you are going to go crazy. Merle has created such a strong and courageous character in Ana. As you read The Glimpse, you will see the different scenarios in which Ana puts herself into harm’s way, and watch as she sacrifices even herself, in order to save those that she loves.Speaking of strong and courageous characters, let’s not forget about Cole. Ohhhh Cole. He is one dreamy rebel. As the story progressed, and the more I read about Cole and Ana’s interactions, he was one male lead that I could not help but crush on. To base everything solely on “a glimpse”, which is pretty much like a vision, or more like a prophecy.I will admit that it took me quite some time to get into the groove of this book. There were times where I was ready to put the book aside and move on. But suffice it to say, I am so glad that I powered through. Once Ana does something quite stupid, in order to find Jasper, I couldn’t stop reading. The events that take place are heartbreaking and nerve wracking. Multiple emotions poured out of me as I read through the pages. The ending leaves off with a hopeful sequel with promises of more Cole moments and hopefully to find out what exactly is going on with Ana’s father.
