Okay, the very first thing that needs to be said about this book is that if I could I would give it (every star in the sky out of five) six out of five stars at the very least. This book has raised my expectations beyond where they have ever been before. It blew my mind. It took my feels (feels being a burst of emotions that cannot be explained adequately) and completely obliterated them to the point where I was left literally as an emotional puddle curled up on the floor unable to contain how much I loved this book. In case I haven’t made it quite clear yet The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is currently placeholder for book of the year 2013 (in my opinion).

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is set in a future where vampirism is being spread like a pandemic and in an effort to control the infection the government has set up Coldtowns in all major areas where the infection seems to be breaking out. Tana has grown up used to the existence of vampires, Coldtowns and the idea of people who gain the infection and begin to go Cold and hunger for human blood to finish their transformation.

When Tana awakens in a bathtub after a night of partying the last thing she expects is to discover that the very people she grew up with have all been brutally murdered by vampires, that her crappy ex-boyfriend Aidan is infected in the aftermath and a mysterious, vampire boy named Gavriel. In an effort to keep them from going Cold, Tana finds herself en route to Coldtown with a strange pair of siblings and two hungry bloodsuckers. However as Tana finds herself delving deeper into the heart of Coldtown and its celebrity vampire’s glamorous lives, she discovers that Coldtown has its secrets. Then there’s Gavriel who’s dark, strange and terribly undead and pulling Tana toward him whether she knows it or not…

One of the best parts of The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is the writing style. Ever since reading her Modern Faerie Tales, I’ve loved the way that author Holly black writes. Her way of writing is always so detailed and descriptive, it’s very easy to conjure the scenes taking place in your mind. The way that The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is written leaves it so that everything always feels dark. This read in general is very dark there are psychotic vampires, a girl waking up to her friends’ corpses and lots and lots of tragedy. The way that Holly Black wrote The Coldest Girl in Coldtown honestly had me falling in love with this read twelve times harder than I expected to.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is filled with plot twists that left me screaming… literally… (Should I be worried about that? Probably). Every single one was not foreshadowed that much, just lightly hinted at in a very realistic manner. Plot twist after plot twist I just did not expect what would happen next to Tana and the cast in the novel. Honestly the biggest one that I could not expect involved Gavriel who I loved. A lot. Unhealthily to the point where I have decided he needs to be my next fictional character obsession after Supernatural’s Dean Winchester…

Gavriel and Tana were amazing and I loved them very much. I ‘shipped’ it as the young people these days say it (shipped being a term used to take two fictional characters and pair them together) because they were perfect together. Gavriel is the type of badass male love interest that you know will completely jack you up if you try to mess with him while also being the type of badass male love interest that you want to just have hold you and being romantic with (see Vampire Academy’s Dimitri and The Mortal Instrument’s Jace). Forget for a moment that Gavriel is also a vampire who may not be completely all right in the head, he was still amazing. And I want more of him despite how I could barely handle what I was given in The Coldest Girl in Coldtown without losing control of my emotions.

I haven’t read a breathtaking read like this in a long time, The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is what I have been searching for in the past two years. A highly addictive read that I just could not put down. Readers who are looking for a kickass main character in a dark and romantic read should definitely check this out. Fans of Holly Black’s previous works will eat this novel up and readers who have been searching everywhere for a novel that will just take your mind and blow it up need to read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Even if you aren’t a fan of vampires you need to read it. Everybody needs to read it. Definitely my number one pick for the best read this year.
