Chapter by Chapter

How great would it be to actually know that you have a guardian angel that has watched over you since the day you were born?  One who reveals themselves to you to let you know that they have been with you through the good times and the bad?  One who tells you that your “close call” was actually thanks to his/her doing?

For sixteen year old Whitney Lane.  This actually happens.  Filled with grief and stress due to the sudden loss of her father, Whitney has to grow up pretty fast in order for her to take care of her younger sister and her mother.  A mother who is so torn and grief stricken that she is basically useless.  Staying holed up in her room, not bathing unless told by Whitney, and basically ceasing to be a mother.

But the “Powers that be” have decided to allow Whitney’s guardian angel reveal himself, and basically let her know that there is a grand plan that she is a part of, and that something very bad is on its way and she very much plays a role in it.  This in itself is a huge relief as Whitney thought that she was following in the footsteps of her mother, and was slowly going crazy.

Add into this mixture a boy that all the girl in school lust over but is now totally into Whitney, and a new mysterious dark haired guy who seems to loathe Whitney’s existence, and you have a recipe for a great story!

My heart went out to Whitney and her little sister in the very first chapter of Guardian.  It stirred emotions so early that the loss of their father made my heart ache somethin’ fierce!  As a mother and wife, I can completely understand the pain that their mother is going through.  I can sympathize with the mother about the pain of the loss of the love of your life, but you’ve got kids woman!  Keep it together!  I was getting angrier and angrier at her for neglecting her little ones.  Fortunately, as the story progresses, all is not what it seems, and everything that Whitney believed to have been true is actually a mask, and something evil stirs.

I love the idea of guardian angels, and I love that the ones described in this story are angel warriors all muscley and hot.  I much preferred that appearance over the teen mirage.  The twist provided in the end was interesting and very Da Vinci code.  I guess as an older reader, I was able to figure out this little plot twist earlier in the book, but for actual young reader’s, it would be real gasp worthy.

I’d recommend this read to fans of angel reads, and to those who enjoy reads involving good vs. evil.
