Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn

Another Little Piece - Kate Karyus Quinn

I have been so excited to read Another Little Piece by author Kate Karyus Quinn that it isn’t even funny. Seriously, all I wanted since I heard about the novel was to get reading but *sigh* I never got the chance until recently. Wow. Was this read not worth the wait! I loved every moment spent reading Another Little Piece. It was dark, romantic and absolutely amazing.

After waking up in the woods and covered in blood, Annaliese Gordon stumbled into a high school party deranged and then was gone. After a year of people searching for her Annaliese is found hundreds of miles away from her home town with barely any memory of her life before whatever happened to her in the woods. Annaliese is brought back into the life that she used to have despite her lack of memory and is pushed to be her parents’ daughter again.

The only problem is that Annaliese can’t think of them as her parents and she can’t think of this life as her life because she knows the truth: she isn’t Annaliese Gordon she’s somebody else. Her memories are fragmented and clouded. She only remembers bits and pieces of what happened to the real Annaliese Gordon, she continues to have memories that aren’t always hers and some are the memories of other girls who went missing. Eventually Annaliese learns the truth behind these memories and the terrifying, dark truth behind who she really is and the never-ending cycle that she is trapped in unless she can understand her past.

Another Little Piece is such a dark read and I loved it for that. The descriptions were haunting at times and the writing just made it feel so real. Whenever I think back to the novel all I can thinking about is how dark the novel would get and poor Annaliese who made a deal with the devil which resulted in the following. 1) Her losing her virginity to her crush in the woods 2) Seeing another girl in the woods (who will be unnamed because spoilers) 3) Cut out that girl’s heart and ate it. Seriously, a novel does not get any darker than when it begins to describe cutting out a human heart and characters who eat hearts.

What I didn’t expect from Another Little Piece was the supernatural aspect of the novel. I honestly didn’t expect this read to become so surreal (and I mean that in a good way).  Not only was there a plot twist that I didn’t expect when it came to how Annaliese came to be the way she I snow but there is a huge, twisted and dark plot behind who Annaliese isn’t and what this means for her and the cycle that she is caught up in that will result in *spoiler spoiler spoiler* Not only did this have me very excited to keep on reading but it also had me very interested to see what would happen next to Annaliese and the love interests introduced in the novel.

Yes you heard right apart from how disturbing this read can get (and I also mean that in a good way) there is also a lot of romance brought into it. While some of it isn’t a relationship you might want (i.e. Annaliese and Logan a.k.a. the boy who stole her virginity then left her in the woods where events unfolded) there is another that you will adore! I know that the romance had me getting all emotional inside and lovey dovey.

I would recommend Another Little Piece to fans of authors like Brenna Yovanoff  and Kendare Blake, readers who want a novel that is supernatural, dark and gritty and readers who want a novel that they won’t want to put down.
